Forgiveness is the key!

After many years of protests and speeches and demonstrations as an African American activist, I came to realize that my anger, resentment and protest actually stimulated reactions of more anger, fear and resistance among those I railed against, namely, white society.

My negative emotions were only hurting me and inhibiting progress for me and my people. I eventually came to the conclusion that the only viable answer is forgiveness – the act of releasing anger and resentment.

Forgiveness enabled me to reclaim the tremendous energy that was locked up in the past and apply it to the forward motion of progress. We are a powerful people who have been denied the truth of their power by the incessant hammering of propaganda directed against us. Propaganda used to convince the world that we are lazy, ignorant, dangerous and unworthy.

Our history reveals that this propaganda is built on lies. It is time for us to stand and release the debilitating effects of our reactive negative emotions. It is time for us to rise above the basement of society where we were forced to live.

We are the Children of God and living that truth will overcome all obstacles, all resistance and all falsehoods. It is time for us to drop the burden of racism targeted against us and step into our true power. Forgiveness is the key!
